“Connect People with Nature, and Nature with People”
We are creating an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to engage responsibly with the natural environment and partake in educational experiences. We are preserving the natural beauty of our environment, maintaining a sustainable future for our children and visitors who get to enjoy Traveller’s Rest 1770!
Michi attended the World Environment Day Breakfast at Mon Repos in Bagara, hosted by the Queensland Tourism Industry Council in 2023. The theme was the “Solution to Plastic Pollution”. At Traveller’s Rest 1770 we have several environmentally friendly practices in place and we encourage all our visitors to support our mission to reduce general waste. “The keynote speakers at the World Environment Day Breakfast truly inspired me to create more long-term sustainable practices within our business!” Michi said.
This is when we came up with an idea. Why don’t we save the money from our 10-cent recycling collection and purchase re-usable cups for our “BushTracks” Tours”? We wanted cups that align with our connection to the land and decided on the use of natural earthen ware.
Co-incidentally my friend Sheridan brought her cup collection to playgroup for us mum’s to have a look. Everyone always says:” Her cups find you!” I didn’t think much about it until I held THE cup in my hand. The perfect cup for “BushTracks”! I went home and showed Mike and we decided to employ “Yindi Magic”, Sheridin’s amazing pottery business to create unique cups for BushTracks, using our recycling funds.
Sheridin attended a pottery class 2.5 years ago with some friends and discovered her talent. Well, it wasn’t so surprising as her mum was a potter. Sheridin and her brother got to play with clay a lot as kids and her talent was embedded from a young age and re-discovered during the Pottery Class. From that moment, Sheridin decided to continue the clay work. Her daughter Yindi, where the Business Name “Yindi Magic” stems was just under a year old at that time. When you have a one-year-old around you, the most satisfying feeling is to be able to complete one thing a day. Clay offered this opportunity for Sheridin and the best part of working from home was, she could still be with her daughter. Sheridin realized quickly that this is something she wanted to continue doing. Sheridin and her young family used to live in a bus on the Sunny Coast, before moving to Agnes Water 1.5 years ago– a friendly and community orientated Coastal Town on the Discovery Coast. This is the place where Sheridin really started to realize that she could turn her passion into a successful business, supporting her family. Sheridin’s inspiration comes from her daily live, being in nature and amongst our beautiful community.
Sheridin’s vision for “Yindi Magic” is continuing to share her passion. She loves hearing about the beautiful stories from the people who purchased a cup. Her cups are a reminder for the women and men using them, to slow down and take a moment to be present!
